Built as a summer home for the Whitney family in 1890s Belle Haven, this house was restored to its original beauty based on archival photographs. Now it is a 21st century home for a family with four active teenagers .
Changes were made to the property after careful consultation with the Greenwich zoning department. An enclosed porch was reopened to provide habitable space elsewhere in the house.
The Kitchen, originally designed for staff, was moved to the center of the house. The vacated kitchen was converted to a waxed, pine Study. A new Master Bathroom was added above the open porch. A new basement was carved out below the existing house to create space for a large rec room, exercise room and ice hockey facility. The attic was reclaimed as a bedroom and bathroom.
As well as completing work on the house, the existing cottage was reconfigured to generate space for a poolhouse for the new pool and a new 2-car garage.
